Meghalaya Congress Chief Vincent H Pala alleged that the National People’s Party (NPP) is “exploiting” its governing power for electoral gains in the upcoming Gambegre by-poll.

The seat fell vacant after MLA Saleng A Sangma’s election to the Lok Sabha.

Pala expressed concerns about government machinery misuse, citing the NPP’s advantage as the ruling party.

Despite recent desertions, Congress claimed that it was confident of retaining the seat and has begun candidate selection for the by-poll and district council polls.

The party stated that it witnessed a “new energy” after reorganizing affected constituencies.

Pala further denied ties with the Trinamool Congress, emphasizing shared opposition goals.
